The Wheel of the Year is a Celtic & Pagan tradition representing & celebrating nature’s cycles, the pagan festivals, the God & the Goddess & the unity of man, land, life & Spirit. This ancient system journeys through the seasonal cycles, the 4 directions & the elements, signifying the eternal flow of life.
Over time the wheel (once used to follow the seasonal year for farming & agriculture) is now a wonderful tool for the inner & outer journey of life. We are part of these 4 elements, united within the 5th – that of Spirit, which manifests itself within us as our soul. We may have an affinity with one or more element, while others we may find challenging. By gaining an understanding of each element & their energies during the different times of the year, we can find clarity, acceptance & balance as we once again align ourselves & our lives with nature.
The wheel itself is significant in its design as there is no marked beginning or end, signifying unity. As the Wheel turns, moving from one element to the next, there is an overlap of energy. However if one wanted to start something new, one would begin in the East, in the element of Air, which marks new beginnings & birth. South, the element of Fire marks action & manifestation. West, the element of Water marks harvesting & reaping. North, the element of Earth marks endings & rest. Within the centre, Spirit, unifies all 4 elements, bringing stillness & peace.
It is a wheel of deep connection to life & self & offers a wonderful way to connect with & celebrate both wild & human Nature. To discover more, please enter each element on the Wheel of the Year where you may explore your own nature as you connect with the elements. Enjoy your journey!
